In mid-November, during a Friday morning Rise and Shine assembly at Smith Elementary, Mrs. Mandi Shimp was introduced as the 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year. A career educator, Mrs. Shimp has worked with early childhood aged children as a teacher and currently as a reading specialist. Her passion for reading and student learning is evident by how dedicated she is to growing young readers. Students know they are loved and thrive in her classroom. They are inspired to learn to read and reach for the stars while spending time in an encouraging and nurturing environment.
Mr. James reflects on this award and its recipient, Mandi Shimp, "She is such a deserving teacher. Her hardwork and care for the students reflects the heart she has for education. We are very lucky to have her," said Smith Principal, Patrick James.
