Grades

Parent Portal is your best friend when it comes to keeping track of your child's grade. It will also give you valuable information as to where your child is struggling.

Once in Parent Portal, you can see the overall grade for each subject.
But it gets better!

If you click on the actual grade, say for science, it will give you a list of all the assignments and grades, that have already been entered into the grade book. You can see which assignments your child did poorly on and in which categories. Is homework the problem or class work? Maybe he/she has a lot of missing work. Check for a symbol next to the grade to indicate if she was absent or the assignment was turned in late or is still missing.

When I input grades, students who do not have the assignment turned in, at that time, receive a "0" and the symbol for missing. These assignments, marked as missing, MAY STILL BE turned in. I expect them to be turned in. Once the assignment is turned in, I will change the 0 to whatever grade was received and remove the "missing" symbol.

Each week, I will send home a Friday report for students who have a missing assignment(s). I expect the work to be turned in on Monday. If the work has not been turned in by the next Friday report, the assignment is considered late and will start losing points for each day it is not turned in. The Owasso School policy for late assignments is stated in the handbook as "Late assignments hinder proper educational progress. Assignments turned in one day late may have ten (10) points deducted from the grade after the paper is graded. This privilege may not be granted to students who repeatedly turn in late papers."

If the work is still not turned in by the 1-month mark, the missing symbol will come off the assignment and a "0" will be given for the assignment's final grade. However, I still want the student to complete the work to practice the concept. Therefore, the student will work on any late assignment that has not been turned returned instead of participating in any extra "fun" activity done in class, until the assignment is completed.

If you are absent, the policy for makeup work will apply before beginning the missing/late work policy. The Owasso School policy for absent work is stated in the handbook as "Make-up Work 1. When a student is absent longer than two (2) days, the parent may call the school to request assignments to be picked up in the office on the third day. 2. When students are absent, they have the number of school days they were absent plus one school day to complete the homework assignment. (Example: If a student is absent 3 days, he has 4 days to complete his homework.) Any assignment turned in after the allotted days will not be accepted.3. No work will be given in advance for vacations. Upon return from vacation, the above policy will apply."
